Stress. We each have our own set of challenges and ways of responding to those challenges. The world is facing unprecedented challenges with the current COVID-19 pandemic. How has this impacted your ability to cope with stress and the unknown? How has this pandemic impacted your thoughts, your emotions, your ability to sleep at night? Who do you have in your social circle that you can turn to for social support? What are your coping mechanisms? Are they healthy, both in the short-term and in the long-term? Anxiety. Most of us have experienced anxiety to some degree or another. And for some, the experience of anxiety may be temporary. But for others, the experience of anxiety may be chronic. The experience of anxiety can range from occasional anxious thoughts to chronic paralyzing panic episodes. The experience of anxiety, no matter how severe, can interfere with an overall sense of well-being and quality of life.
As a Marriage Counselor, I have devoted years to the study of how to create and maintain a healthy, thriving marriage relationship between a man and a woman. And for the past 8 years, I have had the privilege of providing marriage counseling for many couples. During that time, I have had the privilege to witness healing and growth in many couples. Unfortunately, I have also witnessed couples who have continued the cycle of anger and emotional hostility toward each other. In the latter case, marriage therapy is not helpful.
Depression can impact the way that we feel about ourselves and the world around us. When we are depressed, we may not even notice or recognize ways our thinking and our behaviors have changed over time, due to a depressed mood.
